Review: Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream

August 2, 2016

I became intrigued by Josh Rosebrook products a while back when a few fellow Ethical Writers Co members were discussing his skin and hair care lines.  Always keen to learn about new organic, cruelty-free, plant-based skincare lines I did some research of my own and was pretty pleased with what I found.

I popped over to Shop Follain website and decided to order myself a travel sized bottle of the Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream with SPF 30.  If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll know that I’m very serious and diligent about sun protection, so I was happy to see that he offers a day cream with non-nano zinc oxide, and offers it in a color adjusting tinted formula as well.

I was honestly pretty impressed with the ingredients in this day cream:  evening primrose oil, hemp seed oil, rose hips, borage oil…. For my skin in particular, this list is a dream. I need all the anti-inflammatory, calming, dark spot lightening, skin brightening help I can get and all of those ingredients are known to deliver on exactly those issues.

Lately, I’ve been reading a lot about evening primrose oil and borage oil, in particular, and their benefits when taken internally to help restore hormonal balance, reduce inflammation, and deliver healthy plant-based sources of Omega-6 fatty acids.    Topical application as part of a skincare regimen has shown these oils to be effective anti-inflammatory agents as well.

Needless to say I was excited to receive my package.

I appreciate the understated, minimalist and classy packaging. Glass jars and containers are also always a bonus. For me, it’s the type of packaging that you wouldn’t mind leaving exposed on a counter or shelf; it has a nice clean apothecary aesthetic that I quite like.

The moisturizer itself feels very light on the skin and spreads very easily so one pump is sufficient to cover my entire face.  The smell is delicious. I can’t quite put my finger on what the scent is exactly, but all of those organic and wild crafted ingredients come together to make such a pleasing smell that my morning application of this moisturizer is a real treat.

Overall, I really like the Nutrient Day Cream as a lightweight moisturizer that I can wear alone or layered under makeup.  For me, I don’t feel confident that this would provide enough sun protection for the melasma spots on my face, so I would apply stronger sunscreen directly to those spots for additional coverage and peace of mind.

I like this moisturizer enough to incorporate into my daily skincare regimen moving forward, and will purchase the larger bottle when I run out. I am interested in trying the tinted formula for the days when I don’t want to apply any makeup, but want a little bit of  no-fuss coverage to even out my skin.
